NEW HYBRID HONDA CR-V COMING THIS YEAR AMONG MULTIPLE NEW HONDA HYBRID MODELS

Honda is preparing to significantly increase the number of hybrid vehicles that it offers on the market starting with a brand-new hybrid version of the Honda CR-V which is expected later this year. Honda will ultimately electrify its core models including the CR-V as well as the Accord and eventually the Honda Civic.

This new hybrid strategy is aligned with Honda’s objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and selling only zero emission vehicles by 2040. Honda says it will offer hybrid versions of the Honda CR-V and Honda Accord this year, while a Civic Hybrid will join the Honda lineup later.

‘Increasing our hybrid-electric vehicle output is critical to reducing Honda’s greenhouse gas emissions and achieving our goals of 100% zero-emission vehicle sales in North America by 2040 and carbon neutrality for our global operations by 2050,” said Jean Marc Leclerc, President and CEO Honda Canada. “Our recent investment of $1.38 billion to upgrade our Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) facilities in preparation for our electrified future is another step to realizing these goals as HCM will be the North American lead plant for building the all-new, 2023 CR-V Hybrid.”

Honda believes that its hybrid offerings will represent more than 50% of the sales mix for each model down the road. Honda will offer these new hybrid models while also continuing development of its first electric vehicle, the Honda Prologue, which is expected in 2024.

Honda already offers a hybrid version of the Honda Accord here in North America and was one of the first automakers to offer hybrid versions of their compact sedan with the previous Honda Civic Hybrid which was offered a few years ago. Honda also improved its hybrid vehicle development with the Honda Clarity and Honda Insight in the last few years.

Honda is therefore not a stranger to hybrid technology. The brand's vehicles like the CR-V, Accord, and Civic are already among the most fuel-efficient in their respective segments and we can't wait to see how efficiency improves with the introduction of a hybrid powertrain. We will keep you posted on new Honda hybrid vehicles as information becomes available.
