2023 HONDA HR-V VS. 2023 HONDA CR-V: WHEN TWO FORCES COLLIDE
2023 HONDA HR-V VS. 2023 HONDA CR-V: WHEN TWO FORCES COLLIDE
Posted on May 16, 2023
Usually, we take the time to compare one of our models to those of the competition to show you its advantages, its superiority. Let's make an exception to this rule this time and put two models in opposition to each other: the 2023 Honda HR-V and the 2023 Honda CR-V.
Why? Because, rarely, both are completely new for 2023. So, Honda gives you the choice between two state-of-the-art models. All you have to do is make the hard choice between one or the other.
Let's take a look at a few things that might help you decide.
Power?
Are you looking for performance? If so, you may prefer the CR-V, as it features a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that offers 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque. The HR-V, on the other hand, now benefits from the Honda Civic's engine, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that suggests 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. Both work in conjunction with a CVT.
The CR-V offers more, it's heavier. The HR-V is more compact, nimble and maneuverable. To find out for sure, try both models in a dealership.
Storage space
If you need a lot of storage space, the CR-V is where you'll find it. Let's face it, the HR-V offers excellent storage space with a total volume of 1,559 liters. However, if your needs are greater, you should know that the CR-V offers a total of 2166 liters of space. With the second row of seats in place, that's 1113 liters, a little less than the HR-V's volume with the second seat down.
So if space is a priority, this is the CR-V for you.
Hybrid?
The new 2023 Honda HR-V will not be offered in hybrid configuration, but the CR-V will. If you want the ultimate in fuel economy, this is the version of the model you'll find it with. Honda hasn't shared numbers yet, but we expect a combined average of about 6 L/100 km.
The HR-V does very well, again, but you can't compare a traditional powertrain to a hybrid approach in terms of efficiency.
Dynamism
Both new models benefit from revised, improved and structurally reinforced chassis. For the most dynamic and sporty experience, you have to go with the HR-V because of its more compact size... and because it's now based on the Civic's chassis. Really, it has nothing to do with the handling of its predecessor.
Otherwise, the models are equal in build quality and finish, as well as equipment levels and reliability. The HR-V is less expensive, for those who want to save a few extra bucks, but the resale value is excellent in both cases.
Again, to know for sure, a test drive of both models is probably what will help us decide the debate.
